Teacher Interview Blog: Dr. Jackie Burger
While reading chapter 7, which really played into my day to day life work, I also got a chance to interview and get to know another teacher/doctor that i have always been so curious and also secretly intrigued by. As reading chapter seven and reading about PBIS, cueing, and rewarding students I really felt at home and connected to the chapter. I thought now would be a chance to take my questions and make good use out of them. Though I think a majority of the teachers that I work with are truly connected not only with the students but have the knowledge to teach and keep up with the new laws and expectations they have to obey by. Dr. Burger who goes by Ms. Burger to all her students and co-workers has a very strong and respectable nature to her. Though she comes across firm, she is very well respected, looked up to, and well rounded. Her classroom is always on task, her students respect her, and staff can always count on her. She always has her lesson plans ready and is very knowledgeable in many areas. I got the chance to interview Dr. Jackie Burger an educator for 24 years for CPS, Braun educational Center. She is very experienced in diverse settings from classrooms to working in the jail. Ms. Burger has a way to connect to many people whether you are a man, woman, young, old, black, or white Ms. Burger will find a connection and win your trust.
What makes this woman amazing is she connects to all ages, teachers, staff, ethnicities, parents, and students. She cares and is willing to allow anyone in to be shown the way. So interviewing her may have been a little scary but well worth it. Though I talked to numerous teachers about the same interview questions and did very informal interviews it was fun to see what made the difference in a classroom.
Ms. Burger was firm yet gentle, never stops learning herself, and has a heart to help anyone on whatever journey they may be pursuing. Learning that being prepared and on top of your lesson plans will be beneficial so that if a student walks in with a problem that stems from their home life you can concentrate on helping them while the rest of the class is engaged in a lesson that was planned for their academic year. While planning ahead and keeping students engaged she explained that it keeps them from finding other ways into getting into trouble. Also, she brings on great points for keeping her students feeling safe.
When I become a teacher I will always look up to Jackie and remember all the valuable lessons she has taught me. Not only as a student, but as a future educator. Her love and devotion for her career and her love for the kids is truly inspiring. I wished every educator got into the career and taught and cared for the kids like Dr. Jackie Burger. Her insight for running a classroom is inspiring.
